On my way in to work this morning I saw 3 eagles! I was so pleased and thought about how I should tell our readers where the eagle’s nest is on Highway 61. Then my morning got even better as a very healthy wolf crossed in front of my car. Of course too fast and I could not get the camera out. Its coat was so fluffy and lush. I have only seen one wolf while living up here and it did not look so great. The wolves have had a rough go of it the last couple years as we have not had enough snow to catch their prey. To top off my exciting wildlife sightings, yesterday I saw a fox running rapidly away from the road and last week I saw 2 eagles fighting above Cutface Creek.
Daily I look on my drive to and from work to see if there is an eagle in the nest along Highway 61. In the spring you can usually see the mother eagle sitting on her egg and the father eagle perched in the next tree over. The nest is located about .25 miles past County Road 7 toward Grand Marais- I always look to the lake right after the No Passing sign. Be sure to check it out the next time you are up here! -Kris
